At sound Audiology we have our own philosophy about this question. Each manufacturer has its OWN top-of-the-line Hearing Aid, and I do believe that their Hearing Aid is their best version of a Hearing Aid for their brand.  But do we always choose one hearing aid for every patient?? Never! At Sound Audiology, we have a completely customized approach. Most manufacturers set up their hearing aids in a number order where the lowest number is their lowest level of technology, and the highest number is their highest level of technology. For example, Widex has a line of aids called “moment”  and have aids in the following levels of technology:  110, 220, 330 and 440. The 440 being the most advanced, expensive, and technologically advanced Hearing Aid in their moment line. All the hearing aids in this line from the 110 to the 440, will look identical and share the same physical look and appearance, as well as the same connectivity to the app on the phone. The more sophisticated levels of technology typically have some additional behind-the-scenes features. These features help to reduce noise, improve hearing of speech, and have an overall better clarity with more frequencies, bands, and channels of hearing. At Sound Audiology, we have NOT partnered with any manufacturer to only sell their specific hearing aids.  We have the luxury of getting any hearing aids that anyone wants, and that affords us the ability to fit the patient with the most appropriate Hearing Aid for them. It is not a one size fits all scenario like many other Audiologist practices are geared towards. At Sound audiology, we are able to pick and choose the products based on many factors.   Factors we use to select the best aid include: cost, dexterity, hearing loss, visual acuity, ear shape, ear size, degree and type of hearing loss, and vanity. I had a patient come in a few weeks ago that had pretty compromised dexterity and also a vision impairment, as well as irregular ear canals.  In my 25 years of experience, I know that this patient is going to have difficulty changing batteries and putting these hearing aids in her ears.  For this patient, we chose to go with the Starkey In- the-Canal rechargeable hearing aids. I find that these hearing aids are the easiest for patients with dexterity issues to get in. The fact that they were rechargeable eliminates the need to ever change a battery. Certain manufacturers work better for significant hearing loss than others.  Aggressive feedback management is essential when a patient has a severe to profound hearing loss. Different brands like Starkey and Signia have very good feedback management. Being an independent Audiologist without any affiliation has allowed us, at Sound Audiology, to select the most appropriate hearing aid for you, your hearing loss, your lifestyle, and your abilities. We are not forced to choose something from one brand product line and try to make it work for your hearing because we have an affiliation with them. At Sound Audiology, we work with EVERY hearing aid manufacture, every hearing aid and every style and size.  We have a variety of options. We truly believe that this brings the patient the most customized and appropriate fitting for them. We are happy to try anything. Ninety -nine percent of the time we get it right on the first fit! Sometimes, we may need to exchange hearing aids to get it perfect! Our goal is 100% patient satisfaction. Read our reviews they are true, we didn’t hire someone to write them! We love our patients and they love us!
